1906 William J. Riley, a 33 year-old waiter, decides to build arch supports that relieve the pain suffered by people who spend all day working on their feet.

1934 Riley goes into partnership with his leading salesman, Arthur Hall.

1938 First running shoe designed for the Boston Running Club.

1953 Hall sells the business to his daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor & Paul Kidd.

1960 Trackster running shoe is the first running shoe available in multiple widths.

1972 Jim Davis buys the company from the Kidds the day of the Boston Marathon

1978 First international sales office is established in London. New Balance designs first women’s specific running shoe.

1980 The M355 is designed specifically for Trail Running with an off road outsole.

1981 The M990 is the first $100 running shoe and the most enduring technical
running shoe in the market.

1995 First US New Balance stores open in New York and Chicago.

2003 100th New Balance store opens.

2010 Over 150 New Balance stores in North America and growing.
